About Pratt Park

History and Background

The city first acquired this land in 1958 as part of the Washington Junior High School grounds, but by 1966, it had transformed into a dual-purpose site hosting both a park and low-income housing. In 1976, the park was officially named after Edwin T. Pratt, honoring this remarkable community leader who founded the Central Area Motivation Program and the Seattle Opportunities Industrialization Center - leaving a lasting legacy in the community.

Located in Seattle's Central District neighborhood, Pratt Park spans a generous 5.6 acres of urban greenspace.

Cool Features Worth Checking Out

If you're visiting during the warmer months, don't miss the spraypark (or splash pad), which reopened in May 2022 after renovations. It's the perfect spot to cool off when Seattle finally gets those precious sunny days.

Kids will love the modern playground with its array of climbing platforms, bridges, and slides designed for various age groups. It's a hit with the local schools and daycares, so mornings can be lively with the sounds of children at play.

Basketball enthusiasts can appreciate the covered courts with multiple hoops - a thoughtful feature that lets you shoot some hoops even during Seattle's notorious drizzly days.

You'll discover public restrooms conveniently located near the water play area, and the park welcomes visitors daily from 6AM to 10PM.

Green Spaces and Relaxation

Around the park, you'll discover open grassy areas excellent for spreading out a blanket or tossing a frisbee. Picnic tables are scattered around, with some offering stunning views of the Olympic Mountains on clear days.

Planning a cookout? The park's BBQ stations come complete with proper ash disposal - just bring your charcoal and favorite grillables for a fantastic afternoon outdoors. The spacious green areas provide plenty of room for family gatherings without feeling crowded.

Community Hub

Pratt Park functions as a popular gathering place for the Central District community. The park regularly hosts community events, from casual company picnics to art installations and musical performances that bring neighbors together.

Four-legged friends are welcome too, though you'll need to clean up after your pup. During school days, you might notice local students enjoying their lunch breaks here - just one of the many ways this park has become essential to the neighborhood's daily life.
