About Lewis Park
A Hidden Urban Wilderness
Located on the east slope of Beacon Hill in Seattle, Lewis Park is a little slice of nature that's managed to hold its own against the urban sprawl. Just south of Interstate 90, this green haven offers a refreshing escape from city life without having to leave the city at all.
Sprawling across roughly 55 acres, more than 80% of the park remains deliberately undeveloped - just the way nature intended. Here, you can wander through a patchwork of wetlands, meander across open meadows, or find some shade in the forested areas that make up this diverse landscape.
Nature's Neighborhood
Sitting at the headwaters of Lewis Creek, this park plays a crucial role in keeping the local ecosystem healthy. As the northern gateway to the Beacon Hill community, it's also an excellent spot to witness urban conservation in action. You'll see firsthand how native plants are making a comeback through ongoing restoration efforts.
What to Do
Lewis Park has become something of a community living room, where neighbors gather and nature enthusiasts come to unwind. The network of trails and boardwalks lets you explore at your own pace, taking you through various natural habitats while keeping you (and your shoes) safely above the more delicate ecosystems.
What You'll Find
At the heart of the park stands a welcoming visitor center that is the park's social hub. It's where educational programs happen, community events unfold, and curious visitors can learn about the local plants and animals that call this place home. If you're interested in identifying that mysterious bird you spotted or learning about the ecological importance of a seemingly ordinary plant, this is where you'll find your answers.
